A Rebbe was once asked, how to stop smoking; he answered, slowly. It has taken the federal government over a decade to pass this obvious bill for the public safety. The rabbis also tried to ban smoking, but because the urge and addiction is so strong the rabbis feared losing their power over the people by passing a law that would be ignored–thus opening the door to rampant insurrection. In the end the rabbis settle for a warning to preserve one’s health.
The Federal Law just signed by the president fulfills one of the Seven Commandments of Noah to all the peoples of the world: making laws to to protect the environment. If a law does not fall into one of these seven categories it is a questionable law.
