There are two types of human beings as put forth in the Torah/Teaching: one is physical and the other spiritual; the physical human being needs to gather together because there is power in numbers whereas the spiritual human beings wants to find their unique way in the world.
No one man can obstruct the horizon, pollute the rivers and seas or dump tons of toxic waste into the atmosphere–only a group can accomplish that dubious deed. In our technological world it may seem absurd that a spiritual consideration should be allowed to slow the pace of progress since the physical human being only believes what he sees.
In the Torah is written, lift up your eyes and see what God has created; the Cabala explains the physical eyes are never satisfied–meaning, when one recognizes physicality comes from the essence of the Creator to bring something out of nothing then eyes will never stop looking.
The human being is likened to a mirror, some with a thin veneer of silver which allows the light to be seen and reflect back; others have too much silver that takes the light and gives nothing back.
