The Labor of Weaponry

The United States expanded its role as the world’s leading weapons supplier, increasing its share to more than two-thirds of all foreign armaments deals, according to a new Congressional study released today–Labor Day.

Ironic it is to see such a report on the day set aside to honor labor. It has been over 50 years since President Eisenhower warned America against the Military-Industrial Complex; it seems the warning went unheeded.

More than any other nation in the world America is representative of the entire world–the great melting pot of cultures and peoples living peaceably together; yet, the purveyor of arms is not surprisingly the provoker of wars. Each bomb that drops has the fingerprint of every American.

One’s spiritual path in ancient languages was invariably described as Work; in Hebrew the name for Work is Avoda taken from the word Eved/Slave. Engraved above the gate to the entrance of the Auschwitz Death Camp was the motto: Work will set you free.

There are two types of slavery one of oppression and the other of submission. Serving God is a lifelong work as it says in the Talmud-Book of Law, there is much work, the boss (God) is screaming and the workers (the human being) are lazy.

Working for God to make creation better is rewarded with life; working for man is rewarded with death.
