One quarter of the Gulf of Mexico is now considered polluted where no fishing is allowed. The vision of massive bubbles of oil quickly being conveyed through underwater currents in all directions–menacing black blobs–is terrifying. And nobody knows what to do.
The Midrash-Book of Metaphor says, At first man was created to be 120 feet tall but the angels complained saying he smelt too bad, so God made man to be six feet tall. No matter, after six thousand years man again is smelling bad as witness by the fumes escaping into the air from the evaporating oil.
The Midrash also says that in the end oil will overcome water and all the holidays will be forgotten except for Purim which celebrates that which is beyond logic; during Purim one is commanded to get so drunk until good and bad look alike. Getting drunk numbs the mind.
Moshiach/Oil Pourer will bring a new revelation from the heavens to purify the earth, but everyone knows the oil spewing up from the earth is a result of man’s desire for more things. Cleaning up the world must begin in the heart of man.
