Clerical Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has tightened his grip on Iran's faction-ridden politics after loyalists won over 75 percent of seats in parliamentary elections at the expense of President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.
Shia Islam practiced in Iran is subjugated to the idea of the Mahdi, a savior of humankind and the final of the 12 Imams; the Mahdi is prophesied to come to earth along with Jesus, bringing peace to the world – the ruling elite struggles over how to accomplish prophesy.
Whereas, other nations have political agendas regarding power and wealth, Iran struggles to bring about world-wide redemption, as do the zealots in Israel through the coming of Moshiach, also prophesied to bring peace to the world. With so much peace why is there war?
Between these two ancient peoples seeking peace are the Christians hoping for Armageddon. Iran fears Western influence perverting their spiritual principles meant to bring peace; Iran sees Israel as the wedge of the West seeding unrest – derailing the spiritual process.
According to Cabala, the possibility of redemption being a four-way process, requiring the Mahdi to bring Jesus before Eliuho the Prophet can bring Moshiach is something worth pondering. The Talmud-Book of Law says, Moshiach will not come until murder is eradicated.
