THE CABALA OF MOON

The full moon of tonight is called Supermoon — hitting its peak one minute after the moon makes its closest approach to Earth accompanied by a meteor shower from Halley's Comet that's peaking as well, adding to the sky show.

The Torah describes, In the beginning of creation there were two equal lights, the Moon and the Sun; the moon complained saying, There can only be one king – so God suggested to the moon to make herself smaller and therefore was given the stars to appease her.

The Moon was complaining about the ego of the Sun; God’s advice was to become small and let the ego burn itself out. The stars that adorn the Moon are a much greater light than the Sun and the sway of the moon over the earth is more subtle in her ways.

With all the moons and planets in our solar system, only earth’s moon precisely covers the sun during an eclipse. In the future, according to the Midrash-Book of Metaphor, the moon will shine like the sun and the sun with be seven times brighter – more light in the world.

The Cabala explains, Shakina, the nurturing aspect of God in the world is comparable to the Moon while the more separate aspect of God known as HaKodesh BarachHo/The Separate Blessed One is comparable to the Sun – both Names are equally necessary for our world to survive.
