Eclipse in the East

The longest total solar eclipse this century started this morning in India, sweeping east across China and into the Pacific Ocean.

Science continually looks for intelligence from outer space while the heavens speak continually, but no one is listening. Coming on the first day of the month of Av, the beginning of the nine days of mourning for the two Temples destroyed on the same day five hundreds years apart is significant, but even more so is the one coming up in the year 2017 or 5777 in the Hebrew calendar on the last day of Av.

The eclipse coming up in eight years will pass only through Bible Belt of America apexing over Christian County Kentucky.

The exactness of the moon precisely covering the sun is so extraordinary that the most strident humanist must take a moment to comprehend that the movement of the stars is the poetry of the Creator. What is being said by God through the heavens is up for interpretation, but that God is speaking to the world should be evident.

It is sad that all the news reports focused on this eclipse being the longest of this century–hubris in its essence. In a society where only the longest matters, the murmuring voice of the Creator goes unheralded.
