The nation’s Roman Catholic bishops have rejected a compromise on birth control coverage and said they would continue to fight to receive free contraceptive coverage in their health insurance plans, without direct involvement or financing from the institutions.
The bishops are quoted saying, All the other mandated preventive services prevent disease, pregnancy is not a disease. What is a disease is pedophilia; ironic, those who turn their backs on priests sexually abusing children are the same ones who insist on the moral imperative.
Even worse than this, if anything could be worst than this, is the hypocrisy employed to make their case – morals; morality falls under the general umbrella of ethics. Everyone is equally obligated in ethical behavior whereas morals are personal acquired habits.
Ethics allows societies to function – despots have no ethics and those who want to hold ethics hostage to their moral standard are themselves immoral in their certitude. The basis for Jewish ethics is found in the Mishna/Learning, father to the Talmud-Book of Law.
Peirky Avot/Ethics of the Fathers written over 2000 years ago says, Know you come from nothing and you will return to nothing but in the future you will be required to give accounting for how you spent your days in this world before God, The Creator of Heaven and Earth.
