U.S. poverty rate, 1 in 6, is at the highest level in 52 years; the portion of Americans living in poverty last year rose to the highest level, making 46.2 million people in poverty in the United States.
The Talmud-Book of Law says, Poverty is only in knowing; those who have let one in six of the people fall into to poverty are poor in knowing – they do not know their responsibility to the poor. Without the poor people their would be no one to accept charity.
God loves the poor people, as seen by their multitudes upon the earth, ubiquitous throughout the nations. The Midrash-Book of Metaphor says, Before the soul descends to earth, the question is asked: Do you want to be rich or poor – the rich get money, but the poor get faith.
The Torah commands: Care for the poor; the Cabala (Kabbalah) explains how poverty brings about humility opening the door to the divine. It is important to keep a proper balance between rich and poor for society to function properly – one in six is not a good balance.
The moon is considered poor compared to the sun; the lacking of the the moon, not having a radiance of her own, draws from the sun a line of kindness directed to the earth. To the Creator, creation is poor, bring forth from the Creator a new kindness into creation.
