US recording artist Heavy D, the self-proclaimed Overweight Lover of hip-hop, who became one of rap's biggest stars in the 1980s, has died aged 44.

The point in life is not how long you live but how well you live – what one did in their lifetime and what we leave in the world is of ultimate importance. The only pain in heaven is one of embarrassment, not living up to potential or having been involved is misdeeds.
