NASA's newest Mars rover, Curiosity, is one in a long line of spacecraft to be powered by the radioactive element, plutonium 238; yet, with this chemical quickly becoming scarce, it may be the last, scientists worry.
Plutonium is not natural, but is made from Uranium 238. The number 238 in gematria has numerous meanings: Achzori/Cruel; Charel/Burning; Amik Habaka/Valley of Weeping and Maut Maut/By Degrees. It takes year to produce 4.4 pounds of plutonium with a half life of 88 years.
The Torah teaches, The heavens are to God and the Earth is to man; and, Not to go too far in front or too far behind. Perhaps the sages were putting limits on progress – least, it becomes a disease, like a cancer that eats up the Earth, ultimately killing the host.
The Cabala (Kabbalah) explains front and back as the confines of creation limited only by the OreAinSof/LightWithoutEnd from where the two lights of creation are drawn – the filling light is what we experience, the surrounding light is intermediary between dimensions.
There are a plethora of atomic manifestations described by the Cabala (Kabbalah) as different stages of light. Ethereal light is conveyed to the Earth through corporeal existence; the humility of being fastened, causes a self-annihilation – vessel for the light.
