Court-appointed psychiatrists have declared Norwegian mass killer Anders Behring Breivik criminally insane; prosecutors recommended he be placed in a mental institution instead of of jail since, Breivik lives in a delusional universe that governs his thoughts.
The nature of creation is to hide on the essence; as explained in the Cabala, essential light is never revealed, but the external light, meant to fill the various vessels of creation, undergoes endless attenuations before being able to become physical.
Once in the physical realm, the light leeches into the substance of matter animating life; each bit of light has a purpose in the body – the light of vision goes to the eyes, hearing to the ears, touch to the hands. The essence is in the ability to know – self cognition.
The ancient Talmudic saying, As the thief is about to enter he prayers to God for success, hints at the existence of free choice – the capacity to incorporate God into one's perception of creation. Those who choose to exclude God become subject to the whims of reality.
Each individual lives in the their own reality that separates them from God – allowing relationship to evolve between creation and Creator. Those who establish a relationship with the Creator of Heaven and Earth are watched over and protected from doing harm.
