CABALA (KABBALAH) OF CHANUKAH

Chanukah is an eight day holiday marking the victory of the Jews against Greek persecution; when the Jewish People came to rededicate the Temple, they found only one flask of oil with which to light the Menorah for one day, but the oil miraculously lasted for eight days.

The Cabala teaches, Oil represents essence; anything squeezed hard enough will render a drop of liquid – the essence. The molten mental in the center of our globe is the essence of the Earth. The oil used in the Temple was made from the first drop squeezed from the olive.

The miracle of Chanukah was the spiritual illumination during the eight day procedure to make new oil; the windows of the Temple are conclave within and convex without to magnify the light into the world from the three foot tall menorah, beaten from one piece of gold.

Though the victory of a small band of Macabees was miraculous, the inner miracle of the light showed on the true oppression by the Greeks who forbade teaching of the Torah. Alexander the Great sought to conquer the world through Hellenization, but the Jews refused.

Because the Jewish People are defined by the Torah and the 613 Commandments, we are unable to accept on the same level any other discipline or knowledge; the Torah is prophetic, coming from heaven, yet the necessity to reconcile Torah with earthly knowledge is constant.
