Toddlers do not monitor their own speech, but adults and children hear their voice and use it as feedback to monitor their speech, but it seems young toddlers do not.
Speech is what differentiates the human being from the animal; both animals and human beings make tools, practice compassion and have mating rituals, but only the human being can articulate thoughts and intentions into words. The language of animals is one of emotion.
The power of the question resides in the right side of the brain, called: Chochma/Power of What; the right side of the brain is male, the left side of the brain is the answer, initiating emotions and thoughts delivered to the heart where an array of responses are animated.
The breath is broken up by what the Cabala refers to as the Five Geverot/Severities: lips, teeth, tongue, pallet and throat – both the left side of the brain and the mouth are described by the letter Hey with a gematria of five; the mouth is responsible for speech.
The power of speech is called by the attribute Malchot/Royalty – the king rules by his spoken proclamations. First comes the power of speech in the mouth then later the ability to hear one's own thoughts and utterances emanating from the feminine, left side of the brain.
