The first evidence of empathy-driven helping behavior in rodents has been observed in laboratory rats that repeatedly free companions from a restraint, according to a new study by University of Chicago neuroscientists.
According to the Cabala, Compassion is the root of all emotions because the Creator had compassion on creation before creation was created. God, who is completely beyond time and space, had compassion on creation who could not ask to be created, so God created creation.
Since God created creation with compassion, therefore all creatures have some degree of compassion and empathy. The Cabala also explains, Compassion stems from kindness, the first of the seven emotions that make up the Tree of Life; God built the world upon kindness.
Kindness and compassion differ: kindness gives because the nature of kindness is to give; compassion acknowledges the recipient does not merit kindness, but gives anyways. Compassion is a blend of Chesed/Kindness and Gevorah/Severity making Tiferet/Beauty and Truth.
The gematria Chesed/Kindness is 72, the number specific to this year in the Jewish Calendar – 5772. This weekend is the last lunar eclipse until 5775; the light of the moon is full of kindness and compassion – three uninterrupted years of kind light from the moon.
